Where the information comes from
Watch information comes from the National Weather Service. The national map shows broad watch areas, while the ZIP checker gives you a more useful local view.
ZIP codes cover areas rather than exact street addresses. If severe weather is nearby or conditions are changing quickly, follow the alerts issued for your exact location.
When current information is unavailable
Sometimes weather information or the network may be temporarily unavailable. When Thunderstorm Watch cannot confirm a current result, it says so instead of showing “no active watch.”
In that situation, check weather.gov or local alerts and try again later.
Important limits
Thunderstorm Watch checks Severe Thunderstorm Watches only. It does not replace warnings, emergency alerts, forecasts, radar, or instructions from local authorities.
Thunderstorm Watch is an independent service and is not part of NOAA or the National Weather Service. For urgent warnings and instructions, follow weather.gov and local alerts.
